Elder Joseph of Vatopedi (or Joseph of Vatopaidi, Greek: Ιωσήφ ο Βατοπαιδινός, also known as Joseph the Younger; Paphos District, Cyprus, 1 July 1921 – Vatopedi, Mount Athos, 1 July 2009) was a Greek Cypriot Orthodox Christian monk and elder. He was one of the primary disciples of St. Joseph the Hesychast at Mount Athos. Joseph was also known as the spiritual father of Ephraim of Vatopedi, the current abbot of Vatopedi Monastery.
Joseph monk born in 1920 in Cyprus. Pretty young monk went to the historic monastery of the island, Stavrovouni. Then he came to Mount Athos and went to obedience of Elder Joseph Hesychast (1959), which ascetic with a small escort to the caves of the cloister of St. Anne Minor. Then followed the New Skete. After osiaki repose elder acquired own accompaniment. He lived intermittently in Cyprus, monastery Koutloumousiou the Simonopetritis Cell Annunciation Karyes and end at Vatopedi.
