Description
Jesus at the home of Martha and Mary, in art usually called Christ in the House of Martha and Mary, and other variant names, is a Biblical episode in the life of Jesus in the New Testament which appears only in Luke’s Gospel (Luke 10:38–42), immediately after the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37). Luke’s account reads:
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Martha and Mary, along with their brother Lazarus was for the Lord Jesus Christ most dear and holy family of Bethany. The Gospel shows us Mary to be absorbed by the teaching of Jesus and Martha, who were older sister, cares much for the hospitality table. That & # 039; it hears from the mouth of the Master and the famous didaktikotato “Martha, Martha, and merimnᾷs tyrvazῃ Perry lot, Maria particular the agathin exelexato portion, itis CDR subtracted Apr ̓ it” (Lk. i & # 039; 38-42). Mary also anointed with precious myrrh to Jesus’ feet and wiping hysteria with his maiden crown.
