Description
Saint Hadrian lived during the reign of King Licinius (313 AD). He came from Rome and was the son of Prothus king of Rome, who reigned in 276 AD. Hadrian resided, together with his brother Dometius – later bishop of Byzantium after Titus – in Byzantium. Eager to testify about Christ, he went to Nicomedia and examined Licinius, for in vain he troubled the Roman troops, pretending to persecute the Christians. Whenever Licinius tortured him in various ways and finally beheaded him. And his brother Dometios, took his holy relic and buried it in Argyropolis, which is near Byzantium. There were also the holy relics of the Martyrs Hadrian and Natalia, together with those of the Apostle Stachyos, who became the first bishop of Byzantium after the proto-called Andreas.
His memory is honored on August 26.
