Description
Saint Ambrose was a distinguished Roman citizen and was born in 340 AD. He studied rhetoric, philosophy and law. In Milan he worked as a judge. He guarded the truth with words and deeds and rendered justice objectively, although he had not yet been baptized a Christian.
And indeed, Ambrose with his life pleased God. That is why he deserved to be baptized a Christian, then to become a reader, and after passing through all the ecclesiastical ranks within a short period of time, following the decision of King Valentinus I, he was ordained bishop of Milan.
As a bishop, Ambrose shepherded his flock excellently, fought against heresies, but even King Theodosius did not allow him to enter the temple, except when he sincerely repented for the murders he committed in the Hippodrome of Thessaloniki. Ambrose died peacefully in the year 397 AD, aged 57.
