Description
Saint Coralia was one of the forty ascetics and students of Deacon Ammun, originally from Andrianoupolis in Thrace. At that time, in 305 AD, the Roman emperor Licinius had issued a decree to exterminate Christians who refused to worship idols. In this terrible time lived and martyred the Saint, together with her sisters and their teacher Ammun.
These women did not give in to the challenges of the tyrant Licinius, with the result that they suffered horrible tortures, as written in the Minaion of September: “Memory of the holy Forty women martyrs, virgins and ascetics and Ammun their deacon and teacher”.By the decision of the tyrant Licinius, “ten were thrown” into the fire, “and eight after their teacher Ammun were beheaded”, another ten were put to the sword “in the mouth and heart”, six were cut down by knives and the other six ” red-hot irons in their mouths they took to the Lord, they spewed out”.
The Orthodox Christian Church honors their memory on September 1 each year.
