Description

Saint Emma of Lesum is a Christian saint venerated for her piety and charitable works. She is known for her connection to the region of Lesum (now part of Bremen, Germany), and her legacy is often linked with her work in spreading Christianity and caring for the needy.

Saint Emma, also known as Emma of Lesum, is believed to have lived during the 9th century. Her exact birth and death dates are unclear, but her life is traditionally associated with the early Christianization of the region of Saxony in present-day Germany.

Emma was married to Count Liudger of Lesum, a nobleman. Together, they were known for their charitable acts and strong Christian faith. After the death of her husband, Emma dedicated herself to religious life, focusing on charity, helping the poor, and supporting the growth of Christian communities. She also reportedly took care of her children, ensuring they were raised with Christian values.

Following the death of her husband, Emma became a widow but continued her good works, particularly focusing on the care of the poor and sick in the region. She is remembered as a woman of great virtue who had a profound impact on the community around her.

Saint Emma of Lesum is commemorated on July 19 in some Christian calendars.
