Description
Osia Emmelia came from a pious family in Caesarea, Cappadocia. Her father became a Martyr during the last persecutions. The life of the Saint is the good root from which the sweetest fruits sprouted, her children, who prominent members of the society and most of the Saints of the Church, such as Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, Petros Sebastias, the nun Makrina and the monk Naucratios were presented. From a holy root came sanctified shoots, that is, from holy parents came blessed and holy children.
Osia Emmelia experienced in her life, as usually happens with the chosen ones, many sorrows. The death of her parents, before she was even married, the death of her husband, as soon as their son Petros was born, and the premature death of her son Naucratios, but and raising her children by herself with the Lord’s education and admonition, from one point on, were some of them. But he faced them with exemplary faith, courage and patience. She taught her children mainly by example. She gave them, together with her own milk, the unadulterated milk of faith and taught them the mystery of the Church.
