Description

The blessed man of God, Hatzefendis [Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia (1840-1924)], in addition to his other gifts, had the gift of foresight. He had been informed by God, years before, that they would leave [from Cappadocia] for Greece, and he told the Pharasians not to return, but to make savings for the road.A year before the Exchange, a woman came and said to him:
– I have your wish, Hadzefendi, I heard that this year they will lift us up.
Father Arsenios told her:
– Calm down and do your work, because we want another year.
When that time also passed, the sad message arrived, to prepare quickly for the road. The departure was of course very bitter, but the good Father had sweetened this too by the fact that they would return to mother Greece. All the Pharasians immediately began their preparations, just as Father did his.He first baptized all the unbaptized children, as well as one of the President’s children, so the following happened: The child’s parents wanted to give the grandfather’s name, Christos.
But Father Arsenios did not accept, because he also wanted to give his own name and said to the parents:
– Well, you want to leave a person at the grandfather’s feet, I don’t want to leave a monk at my feet?
He turns to Noona and says:
– Arsenio to say.
This child really wanted to become a monk from a young age, as he did; either his wish acted or he saw it with his proactive gift; both of these reveal a Holy man.

Saint Paisios the Saint (born Arsenios Eznepidis, Farasa, Turkey, July 25, 1924 – Saint John the Theologian Monastery, Souroti, Thessaloniki, July 12, 1994) was a Greek Cappadocian monk of the 20th century who became widely known for his monastic life and his work. His classification as a Saint of the Orthodox Church was carried out by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 2015 and his memory is celebrated on July 12, the date of his sleep.
