Description
Saint Timotheus came from the area of Veria and lived in the 18th-19th century. At a young age he was married, but after the death of his wife he decided to become a monk. For this purpose he went to Mount Athos and for the first time he stayed in a cell in Karyes. He then decided to retire to the monastery of Konstamonitou, which had the reputation of a strict commonwealth. He lived there for several years. One day, however, while he was probably in the ministry outside the Monastery or in one of its shares, he was arrested together with three other fathers, the monks Benedict, Synesios and Paul, by the Turks. He was brought before Lubut Pasha in Thessaloniki, imprisoned and tortured in order to deny the orthodox Christian faith. But he, like his co-conspirators, confessed Christ and remained steadfast in his faith and love. Martyred on June 12, probably 1822.
