Description
Saint Ias, also known as Saint Violetta, was a Christian martyr who hailed from the Castle of what was called Vizalis. She was captured along with 9,000 Christians and taken as a prisoner to Persia. There, she was brought before King Shapur of Persia, who handed her over to the Persian wise men, hoping to convince her to renounce Christ.
Despite their efforts, Saint Ias remained steadfast in her faith and refused to deny Christ. As a result, she was imprisoned, and after 15 months, she was brought out and subjected to brutal torture. After enduring immense suffering, she was finally decapitated for her unwavering commitment to Christianity.
Saint Ias (Violetta) is commemorated annually on September 10 in the Christian liturgical calendar, particularly in the Eastern Orthodox Church, as a reminder of her courage, faith, and devotion to Christ, even unto death. Her story serves as an example of perseverance and devotion to faith, inspiring the faithful to stand firm in their beliefs regardless of the trials they may face.
