Description
This icon of the Theotokos is the only object which was saved from a terrible fire which completely destroyed a metochi of the Monastery in Crete. It was brought to the Monastery where it continues to perform many miracles, to which the fathers of the Monastery and its pilgrims are witnesses. During a recent fire in the woods of the Monastery, the monks hastened to the spot with the icon and in a little while heavy rain prevented further damage. The icon is on the sanctuary screen of a chapel of the Katholikon, and on Tuesday of Diakainisimi Week it is taken in procession from the Monastery to the Protaton, where it returns the visit of the Axion Estin made on the day before.
