Description
Our Lady of Guadalupe is a title for the Virgin Mary, particularly in connection with a famous apparition in Mexico. According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to an indigenous man named Juan Diego on December 9, 1531, on the hill of Tepeyac, near Mexico City. During the apparition, she spoke to him in his native Nahuatl language, telling him to have the bishop build a church in her honor.
